KORIN KORMICK  |  soprano

Dramatic soprano Korin Kormick has been acclaimed for her luscious voice, commanding stage presence, and theatrical conviction.  Since her transition to the soprano fach, she made her Off-Broadway debut as the Mother in Hansel and Gretel (Humperdinck), and collaborated with One World Symphony as the heroine of Gluck's Alceste.  She recently made her role debut as Adalgisa in Bellini's Norma with the Hudson Opera Theatre, and has sung Wagner's Wesendonck Lieder in several recent recitals throughout the New York City area.

 

As a mezzo-soprano, her operatic credits include the title characters in Samson et Dalila (Saint-Saëns), Menotti's The Medium and The Old Maid and the Thief, Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro (Mozart), Mrs. Grose in The Turn of the Screw (Britten), Ma Moss in The Tender Land (Copland), and Katisha in The Mikado by Gilbert and Sullivan.  In addition, she created the leading roles in Chasing a Precedent and Nyiramachabelli, two world-premiere operas about the lives of Helen Thomas and Dian Fossey, for the Kentucky Opera VISIONS program. 

 

Ms. Kormick has been featured in concert with the Rochester Philharmonic, the Louisville Youth Orchestra, and the Genessee Valley Orchestra.  She has performed the alto solos in Bach's B Minor Mass, Handel's Messiah, Vaughan Williams' Magnificat, Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass, Schumann's Requiem für Mignon, and Beethoven's Choral Fantasy, and appeared as a soloist in Mozart's Requiem with the Choral Arts of Luzerne County.  She returned to the Hudson Opera Theatre in 2015 to sing the mezzo-soprano solos in the Verdi Requiem.
 
Ms. Kormick completed post-graduate studies with Kathryn Cowdrick at the Eastman School of Music. A graduate of Centre College with a dual degree in Music and French, Ms. Kormick earned her Master of Music degree at the University of Louisville School of Music, where she studied with Daniel Weeks.

 

In recent years, Ms. Kormick was awarded Third Prize in the Friends of Eastman Opera Voice Competition and received Second Place in the Jessie Kneisel Lieder Competition.  She was a regional finalist in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, as well as a semifinalist in the 2011 Opera Columbus Irma M. Cooper Voice Competition.  Ms. Kormick currently resides in New York City.
